Cold-weather start — staged plan
Wax is stiffer in the cold and the initial break-in drags out: what's an easy 5–10 min bed-in at normal temps 'can be 45 minutes to an hour if it's below freezing' (ZFC, Wax & Cold). Soften the wax for the cold and keep early riding steady while it beds in.
- 1Wax prepFor deep cold, add Synergetic to the wax melt (≈20 ml per 500 g) to soften the wax for easier break-inZFC-relayed Silca tip — softer wax beds in faster in the cold, and adds a little longevity and rust protection.
- 2Pre-rideAllow wax 24+ hours after re-waxing before riding
- 3Warm-up~20 min steady, low-load pedalling; avoid hard efforts until the wax beds inZFC (Wax & Cold): in the cold the initial break-in 'can drag on for a fair bit'. Practical guidance: keep early riding steady — no hard efforts or power surges — so the wax beds in evenly before you load it up.
